Day 27. Thursday, July 24 – John o’Groats to Inverness, Scotland

Thursday 24 July 2014

We were still socked in this morning, DSCN0079the wind making the 55° temperatures feel more like freezing.  However, with the fog came the wind at our backs, as we turned around and headed back in the same direction we had come yesterday.  DSCN0080With the fog, we saw about the same amount (and things) as we did yesterday, DSCN0083but we enjoyed not having to push as hard to see it.  As we traveled further west and the sun started burning away some of the fog, the fields DSCN0096and picturesque coves (with their Caribbean blue waters) brightened with color.DSCN0101

Our discussions and free time the last few days have been spent trying to figure out how to bike the west coast AND stay in accommodations every night.  A little readjust and we came up with a new plan; take a train south.photo  After our 21 mile trek back to Thurso, we boarded a train to Inverness, where we will continue our journey to the west coast of Scotland.  We are hoping the room situation improves, but we are close to raising the white flag.  The situation improved in Inverness, where the hotel reception and bar are the same.  DSCN0109We may make it after all.

Excellent move to take the train – Brilliant (in every sense). Tent, hostels, sleep on the train…? You’ll find a solution. Pip, pip and stiff upper lip, Chaps.

So, is that a bike rack in the train?

What a Gloriuos day ! Team leader Lorie of Team Bocrie shouted out as they passed by us in Tain 3 days ago
Hi and Welcome to your Update on the Mighty Scottish Rambling Race, Like i had said Team Bocrie had passed us by , on this foggy day in Tain . As the riders left Tain they would experience Scotlands Famous Fog. Continuing on tho John o Groats, Unfortunatly Team Peepeekeo of the Hawaiian Islands has dropped out , the tempature of 27 degrees celsius, at Altnaharra seems to be to cold for the Team. Frostbite on Team leader Hunacacas nose is just to much for the team to continue. So sorry to hear this. Team Olympuss is still holding 1st. Team Scotland is back in the race , last seen crossing the Bridge in Edinburgh , We will keep you up to date on their progress. Team Timbktu stopped for the night in Falls of Shin .
Team Bocrie is doing quiet well , once again seen Jerry petting the Sheep and the Horseys.
The country side and roads have been a real test for our riders , in the past we’ve always plotted the road coarse for our riders , to keep it rarely simple. This is the first year for Scotland , and a unmarked road coarse , Kinda a free for all.

All the racers are doing great , Team Maine still at airport complaining about No Fossil Fuel. Good Luck

Well there you have it. Im Cecil OToole of the Cecil OToole Sports Hour

WE ARE OUT Have a Great day Bikers
