Day 42. Friday, August 8 – Dublin, Ireland to Liverpool, England

Saturday 9 August 2014

Long day, but not on the bicycles.  A ferry ride on a huge shipDSCN1675 from Dublin to Holyhead, Wales, reminding us why we don’t like cruises; then a frantic transfer to a train to get us into the city.  Duckies were packed on the steaming train like sardines heading for the cannery.  DSCN1685But it got us to Liverpool in (barely) one piece. DSCN1691 In a hunt for maps to cover us for the next week or so, seems ironic we would see this sign..photo-2…there is a message, here!?!

A couple funny Brits, DSCN1702we’d med in 2009 (when we were all biking the west coast of the U.S.), met us for dinner.  As we strolled along the beatifully refurbished waterfront, DSCN1707they identified for us the impressive Cunard Building,DSCN1695the Billy Fury statueDSCN1708 and the Royal Liver buildingDSCN1694  topped by the Liver Bird;DSCN1716 the last visual of the fated Titanic.DSCN1703 We had a wonderful evening with Alan and Jim, DSCN1700who remain as entertaining as ever and kept us out WAY past our bedtime, but it was worth it.

Thanks for making the effort, guys, fun times!

That must have been some train ride (reminds me of taking bikes on the DC Metro – only there’s no rack and you have to hold it up yourself). Riding thru Bay Colony the other day and there was a couple biking and they had duckies on the handlebars. Quacked me up. Onward!

I like the Dairy truck — was there ice cream in it by chance? To DA BEACH BABY! Come on back… It’s cooling off here.

Good to be home after a fun trip to the BVI and catch back up with your week of riding. Looks like it was a good one. Very cool to run into your old riding mates and stay out late. Hope the to the beach sign was pointed west towards Va Beach and not pointed east towards the Med or Middle East.
